![]() Through jokes, screams, and a very gay life, Patrick helps Maisie and Grant to understand more about grief. Families ignored them, and the world, in general, denied their existence. They were not allowed in the graveyards for the services. In the 90s, Queer people had no right to visit their dying partners, and they have no saying on calling out if they wanted to pull the plug or not when needed. People that were alive and not part of the Queer community during the early 80s and early 90s seem to have forgotten in full the hardships the community had to endure to survive. Some people may say the story is cliche and predictable however, the representation of the Queer Generation X (1965-1979) is all that matters. That being said, certain elements should be taken lightly… for instance, Two-Face is mentioned but is still Harvey Dent within the canon. Haunted Knight isn’t often considered to be canon but I personally feel that it works as the perfect introduction to the villains who make their first appearances (according to this chronology). Sale is a genius at work and you really need to see his work to fully appreciate what he has done in these issues. ![]() Gotham and Wayne Manor are sinister and eery at times. His villains are drawn colourful in personality and character but designed with enough darkness to capture their evil nature. Batman is drawn exactly how he should be. The drawings are dark, detailed, realistic and complimented very well by colourist Gregory Wright. Tim Sale is a phenomenal illustrator and his style seems to blend perfectly with the themes and tales that Loeb tells. This collection truly broke the trend of the ‘Legends’ titles having poor to mediocre artwork. Written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Tim Sale in 1996, Haunted Knight contains three self-contained stories (Fear, Madness, and Ghosts) originally printed as Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Special #1-3. ![]() As we continue to work through The Ultimate Batman Chronology, this week I will be reviewing Batman: Haunted Knight. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now banned, Tate’s videos said women belong to their boyfriends, that those who don’t stay at home are “hoes”, and that women who are raped “bear responsibility” for the attacks. I was instantly intrigued by these cases, which seemed to echo medieval saints starving as an act of penance, and also modern anorexics, but weren't exactly the same as either. (It may have been during background research for ‘Revelations', a story I published in 2002 about an eighteenth-century Scottish cult who stopped eating in preparation for the End Times.) I came across 'fasting girls' back in the mid-1990s – so long ago that I can't even remember where I first read about them. The Wonder is an invented story, but what inspired it was the very real phenomenon of ‘the fasting girl,’ who claimed – or was said by others – to be able to live without food. ![]() |
